Opening
Ports in the Sygate Personal Firewall Pro
(ref; http://firewalling.com/personalfirewalls/sygatepersonalfirewallpro.htm)

Step 1:
Open up the Sygate Personal Firewall Pro Program.

Step 2:
In the menu at the top of your screen click Tools and then
click Advanced Rules .
Step 3:
You will probably seen an information message similar to the one above. Put a
checkmark into the Remember box if you don't want to see
that again. Then click Ok .

Step 4:
You should now be at a window similar to the one displayed above. Click the Add button
to add a new configuration.

Step 5:
Put a dot into the Allow this Traffic radio button. We want
to allow traffic, not block traffic. You can imagine the tabs at the top of this
page as a sequence of steps you need to go through to complete this configuration.
The settings you change on one tab applys to all the other tabs. Go ahead and
click the Hosts tab.

Step 6:
This page allows you to select the computers(ip addresses, mac addresses, or
subnets) that are allowed to send data to your computer. Generally when you
open ports to your computer, you want everyone to be able to send data to those
ports. So, we want to make sure the radio button is set to All Addresses .
When you are finished with that click on the Port and Protocols tab.

Step 7:
Use the Protocol drop down box to select the port protocol
of the ports you want to open. If you need to allow multiple protocols, you will
need to create a seperate configuration for each additional protocol. Enter the
ports to open into the Local port box. These ports can be entered
in a list like 54,56,58, a range like 600-700, or a combination of both like
54,56,58,600-700. Leave the Remote port box blank. The local
port box is for opening/closing ports that are coming into your computer. The
remote port box is to open or close ports that you are sending to another computer.
If you put port 50 into the remote port box, you would prevent or allow your
computer to send data to some other computers port 50. Putting port 50 in the
local port box, would allow or prevent someone else to sending data to your computer.
Make sure the Traffic Direction drop down box is set to Both.
When you are done adding ports click on the Scheduling tab.

Step 8:
The scheduling section allows you to activate this rule durring certain times
of the day. You really want these rules active all the time, so make sure the Enable
Scheduling checkbox is unchecked. Then click on the Application tab.

Step 9:
This tab allows you to specify which program on your computer this rule applys
to. We really don't care to limit this rule to certain programs. We really
just want the program that will operate on these ports to work. You can limit
which programs are allowed to use these open ports with this section. It is
really a waste of time to do so, because only certain programs use these ports
by default. I have taken you through a couple of pages where there was little
or no modification required. I did this so you would know a little bit about
the options that are presented upon each page. This configuration is done.
Click the Okay button at the bottom of the screen to save
it.
